Spiced Up Burgers!

For several years I ran Frank's Finest, an herb & spice company which specialized in organic culinary seasonings. Within a few years I created and sold over a dozen blends, and would familiarize myself wide a wide range of herbs and spices from around the globe. The more I experimented, the more unique the combos. One of my favorites was my superfood version of gamasio which combined spirulina with hemp seeds and a few other select ingredients. 

Although the company no longer exists, I still use the recipes from the past and still continue to create new blends when I feel inspired. This recipe was created with the intention of spicing up some locally sourced grass-fed ground beef. The family was quite happy with the results! 

Smokey Spice Blend


  • 2 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons fennel seeds
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 4 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons smoked sea salt 
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle pepper
  • 1 teaspoon allspice


  1. First grind the fennel and cumin seeds then combine in a bowl and mix all the ingredients until well combined. Transfer the spices over to a glass jar and tighten the lid. 
  2. The blend is best used up within a few months, but won't likely last more than a few days before you make a larger batch!
